Our Mission

MySnowDayChance was created with a simple goal: help students and parents get a heads-up on potential school closures. We know the anticipation of a possible snow day—checking the weather constantly, hoping for that early morning notification. Our calculator takes the guesswork out by analyzing real weather data for your specific location.

How It Works

Our snow day calculator pulls real-time weather data including current temperature and conditions, forecasted snowfall for the next 24 hours, wind speed and gusts, precipitation levels, and humidity.

We then apply an algorithm that weighs these factors based on how school districts typically make closure decisions. The result is a percentage chance that gives you a reasonable estimate of snow day likelihood.

Important Disclaimer

While we strive for accuracy, our predictions are estimates only. Actual school closure decisions are made by your local school district based on many factors we can't account for, including road conditions in your specific area, your district's policies and thresholds, coordination with neighboring districts, and availability of snow removal equipment.

Always check your school's official communication channels for actual closure announcements. Our calculator is meant to be fun and informative, not a replacement for official information.

Our Data Sources

We use Open-Meteo for weather data, a free and open-source weather API that provides high-quality forecasts worldwide. For US ZIP code lookups, we use the Zippopotam.us service.
